The House Of Flying Daggers can easily hold it?s own in the arena of Martial Arts flicks. It can be said, without a doubt, Mr. Yimou is a genius! Thanks to its gorgeous color scheme, beautiful camera angles, and jaw dropping choreography this movie is by far one of the most excellent martial arts movies I?ve ever seen.

Hero is known for it?s wonderful use of color to represent the emotions within the scene (e.g.: white for innocence/truth, red for anger/revenge) though HoFD does not apply this Cinematic asset as heavily as Hero it does use it in a much more subtle manner, which I find to be much more pleasing to the eye and less overwhelming. There?s not much one can say about the camera angles, they put you right into the middle of the actions, and even right at the dagger point-of-view, you just need to see it for yourself. Simply put; the choreography will blow your mind; these fights are beyond Hero, Crouching Tiger, or even The One.

Despite all of its assets the plot and characters are not completely original. The story line closely resembles a Shakespearian Tragedy (e.g.: Romeo and Juliet). Don?t count this movie out; just because of these minor lapses in complete originality, they?re hardly noticeable. All-in-all this movie is a must buy for anyone, rather you?re looking for a martial arts wonder, or a romantic roller coaster, you should be mandated by law to see this movie.
