The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
Master of horror Stephen King has revised the first book in The Dark Tower series, The Gunslinger. The Gunslinger was originally published in 1982, and re-released in 2003 in anticipation of the release of the last three volumes of Kings opus.
The story follows Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger from the fallen realm of Gilead, on his quest to reach The Dark Tower. The story opens with the gunslinger trailing The Man in Black. In flashback sequences we see just how dangerous Roland truly is. The Man in Black knows this and lays a trap for him at the Way Station in the sprawling desert; the boy Jake Chambers. Roland and Jake conquer the desert, following The Man in Black into the mountains where new dangers await them. The demon of the speaking circle, the slow mutants of the subterranean pass through the mountains, and The Man in Black himself.
