Over at the Nintendo booth, contained within a glass case adjacent to the classic shell (revealed earlier by IGN) is a prototype for the "Zapper Style" attachment for the Wii remote. Note that you get a joystick for your thumb and a standard gun-style trigger. Not much to say, but the prototype looks promising. We wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being really close to the final product.

Looks like Wii's controller shell has been revealed, even via Nintendo's website (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2006/wii/img_con/photo_classic.jpg) (see url). Wiigamer writes: "Our sources have confirmed to us that this is definitely real, however several questions still remain - why is there a cable, and does the remote simply click onto the bottom of the unit? Or is it now a stand alone unit?"
I like the Shell, I hope its not just for the virtual console like I've read a few places. This would be great for Smash.
Vincent May 10th, 2006, 06:56 PM it looks a lot like the SNES controller....
Strider Hiryu May 10th, 2006, 07:02 PM That controller almost makes me want to cry. The GC controller is probably the best controller for Smash.
By what I've heard the Shell controller is only for the Virtual Console and I've heard this from a few Nintendo people (been watching GameSpot's Live E3 coverage all day) as well as the GS team members. I'm beginning to think there will be no regular controller for Wii games (everything shown at E3 so far is taking advantage solely of the Nunchuck and the main Wii controller) because all developers are taking advantage of the new playstyle offered.
DeathscytheX May 10th, 2006, 07:06 PM Well dont forget... Wii does.. or did have 4 input slots for GC controllers. So at least you can play GC smash on it like normal.
Sledgstone May 10th, 2006, 11:13 PM yeah, i have to agree with vincent.. it looks very similar to the old snes style. its probably wired too. if it was meant for exclusive use with the virtual terminal it'd probably be easier and more compatable to use the old traditional styled controller.. wired, no motion sensitivity, etc.
DeathscytheX May 10th, 2006, 11:20 PM In the footage in the other post its connected too the wii controller 0-o. The problem is that the cord is really short. Im hopeing its longer than that or youll be having the controller hang from the shell. It wasnt thought out very well, they should have just made it a USB plug in or gave it a gamecube controller input plug.
Sledgstone May 10th, 2006, 11:28 PM i just assumed that the gamecube controllers could be plugged into the wii to begin with. the wii will still play gamecube disks right? or did they change that feature... o_o
DeathscytheX May 10th, 2006, 11:29 PM Yeah the there are 4 slots for gamecube controllers. Im just saying they should have made it to where the Shell could use thoes slots also.
Sledgstone May 11th, 2006, 12:23 AM ah, i see. its late and i didn't read your post right the first time thru. :p the wii controller would dangle like a hanging turd. X'D
and what you're saying makes sense.. kind of like how the ps2 can handle both the dual shock controller and the prior system's controller as well. considering how the wii can play both the new titles and the previous gamecube titles you'd think the basic hardware would be similar enough for them to have universal controller ports. and if not, then yeah, usb works for just about everything. O_o
Eppy May 11th, 2006, 06:23 AM the zapper looks awesome...looks like an old fashioned single barrel pistol from like back during the civil war almost

Wii Zapper has secret controls
We reported yesterday on Nintendo's surprise Wii peripheral, the Light Gun shell, or Zapper. We initially posted a low res picture we found over at IGN. But now we have our own high res pictures and you can get a good look at the Zapper in all its glory. Here are the pictures:
http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/zapper2t.jpg (http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/zapper1.jpg)
http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/zapper1t.jpg (http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/zapper2.jpg)
Clearly, the goal is sleakness and simplicity. Only one thing seemed off in the low res picture: the handle appeared misaligned. But the truth is that the Wii Zapper has grip sensitivity. The mechanism can be clearly seen in the second picture. It appears that it could function similar to the analog shoulder triggers of the GameCube.
What could this be used for? I'm not sure and Nintendo probably isn't awake for comment. I'd guess it could be used for anything from charge attacks to reloading. It should be interesting to see how this feature is utilized. We'll let you know as soon as we hear anything or if it turns out we're totally wrong.
If the pics don't load, click on the link. It does look like its grip sensitive.
DeathscytheX May 12th, 2006, 09:26 PM While that is interesting they will need to polish that up a bid, That could serve for some nasty palm pinching X_X
Kuwabara May 21st, 2006, 09:12 AM Rumor has it that you can use the Nintendo Gamecube controller to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Strider Hiryu May 21st, 2006, 10:27 AM It's not a rumor Kuwa, it's fact.
Eppy May 21st, 2006, 11:01 AM yeah that fact was posted in like 3 other topics like a week ago XD they announced it at E3
DeathscytheX May 21st, 2006, 11:59 AM the maker felt that it would make the game too complicated and leaving out the darastic changes would make vets happy and feel right at home.. and he is right.
