Sledgstone February 6th, 2005, 01:45 PM The reputation system is done. All user's reputations have been reset to 100 and all previous reputation comments have been deleted. As of right now the following applies:
1) New members will begin with a base reputation of 100.
2) New members cannot affect other member's reputation until they have 100 posts. ie. Rep Power: 0
3) If you have less than 1 reputation point you cannot affect other member's reputations. ie. Rep Power: 0
4) Reputation power is based on the following variables: join date, post count, reputation points.
5) All members can see who sent what reputation comments.
6) Members that repeatedly leave reputation marks without a comment will be banned or loose all reputation altering abilities. ie. Rep Power: 0
7) Use the reputation comments or see above. As members can see who left what, anyone can easily inform an admin about this.
8) If you abuse, spam or otherwise incite or flame members using the reputation system you will either be banned or loose all reputation altering abilities. ie. Rep Power: 0
9) Negative reputation comments only use half of your total Rep Power.
10) Leaving negative or positive reputation comments do not lower your own reputation points.
The results of low or high reputation:
- Members with less than 1 point of reputation will lose signature and avatar abilities. May also face banning depending on the reasons for the negative comments. See example below.
- Members with 1000 or more reputation points will be upgraded to a 100 pm box and admin post icons.
The point of the reputation system is to reward each other with more reputation points when a good post or topic is made. Or when someone says something inspiring, etc. etc. there are no real limits to being friendly. ^_^ as long as you don't abuse the system by repeatedly boosting the same members. (See number 8 above. abuse)
It can also be used to leave negative reputation points when a member leaves a bad post such as:
- something that does not contribute to a topic;
- spam;
- flaming;
- double posting, etc;
- breaking general AC rules;
as long as you don't abuse the system by repeatedly hitting the same members. (See number 8 above. abuse)
Examples:
Sledgstone
Reputation: 2000
"New Member"
*Sledgstone leaves positive reputation remark for "New Member"*
Result:
"New Member"
In theory, lets say some "New_Member999" spams AC in a couple of forums. Members of AC are irritated and a good chunk of members lower his reputation stating "spam" in the comments.
"New_Member999"
Multiple members
Rep Power total adding up to 224
*Multiple members leave negative reputation comments on "New_Member999"*
Result:
"New_Member999"
Reputation: -12
-12 calculation:
Rep Power: 224 / 2 = 112. (Negative reputation comments divides rep power by half)
Reputation points: 100
100 - 112 = -12
"New_Member999" looses avatar and signature abilities and is facing a ban for low reputation/spamming pending admin decision.
Nattizo February 6th, 2005, 02:00 PM oooooooo i under stand
DeathscytheX February 6th, 2005, 03:20 PM hmm, is the reputation points/comments still in the user cp? or is it accessable from somewhere else. I also notice there is a repuation button under your posts now, as there wasnt before. When you click it it says, you have whatever rep points, you are even on this post. what is the point of this?
Sledgstone February 6th, 2005, 06:16 PM a friendly reminder to everyone. the rep system is not that major and its always been on. only recently have i altered its settings to function in a semi meaningful way. btw, for any one member to drastically loose a bunch of reputation points a large majority of the members would have to leave negative comments for that one user. someone with a rep power of 4 would only be able to take away 2 of your 100 reputation points. consider it a kind of long haul system. the longer you're a member, the higher your reputation will become over time.

yep, the reputation comments are still in the user cp. i erased all previous reputation comments and unless you have received a reputation comment since about 3 this afternoon you won't see any in your user cp. the rep buttons have always been there for reputation purposes. "reputation button: " i didn't notice if you could view your own rep button or not before i altered settings. O_o as for its purpose when clicking on your own, i think its primarily for larger forums where hundreds of members could be using the reputation system. in that case i would assume it would state how many rep points you have either received or lost per that topic.
Violence Jack February 7th, 2005, 05:17 PM whats the rep for?why is it even there?im confused?yes i am
GundamFreakX February 7th, 2005, 08:34 PM To give ppl rep points 4 making good posts and to let other ppl know they're not about to make dumb posts about nothing, and to take points away because of stupid posts, flamming, and all that other stuff that can get you banned, and that will let ppl know this is not a good person to talk to, no offense to anyone.
Korin February 7th, 2005, 10:27 PM So, instead of people thinking they're the "hot shit" for having a million billion posts, they think they're the "hot shit" for making a million billion meaningful posts?
Sabe February 8th, 2005, 06:20 PM Question, I am a bit confused, admittedly...I got a good rep thing from a friend, but the little square is gray, and it hasen't taken effect...Is it because he's still new?
Sledgstone February 8th, 2005, 08:34 PM So, instead of people thinking they're the "hot shit" for having a million billion posts, they think they're the "hot shit" for making a million billion meaningful posts?
forget the post count for a sec.. if someone can actually accomplish a 5,000 on their reputation, then they are the "hot shit" X'D you'd need a helluva lot of members all up'ing your rep to accomplish a number that huge. X'D and the best way to get a better rep, is by making those meaningful posts. ;)
Question, I am a bit confused, admittedly...I got a good rep thing from a friend, but the little square is gray, and it hasen't taken effect...Is it because he's still new?
correct. a new member must have at least 100 posts to affect other member's reputation.
Mike 1508 February 8th, 2005, 11:46 PM i was wondering how u would stop ppl from creating a new user name just to raise there rep
Ladywriter February 9th, 2005, 08:40 AM Newbs don't have the power to influence a rep that drastically. It would take forever.
So, instead of people thinking they're the "hot shit" for having a million billion posts, they think they're the "hot shit" for making a million billion meaningful posts?
Rite on! X'D
Hell_Cat_18 February 9th, 2005, 10:37 AM Rockin idea guys, plus it kinda saves you guys a lot of whiny PM letters huh. I think this system could really work if we all work at it.
Kuwabara February 10th, 2005, 10:43 AM so whi want to give me a god rep
Sledgstone February 10th, 2005, 08:01 PM When you click on your User CP, you'll see the 5 most recent reputation comments. For anyone confused about the colors:
= Positive reputation.
= Balance. The member that gave you this reputation does not have enough rep power to alter your points.
= Negative reputation.
Kuwabara February 12th, 2005, 05:41 PM My rep is terrible omg!!!! From one post i got to watch my mouth.
GundamFreakX February 12th, 2005, 11:00 PM Obviously some ppl didn't like your comments about certain topic...*hack*
defunct_pick February 24th, 2005, 10:13 PM I like the idea that everyone has something to do with how other's see you, and it's by what you say, instead of one person...and it's over a period of time. You all are great at managing a system. Righteous!
Hell_Cat_18 February 25th, 2005, 01:34 PM I know, it's a rockin idea, but Lady and Sledge always come up with something rockin to keep this place awsome.
HeeroYuy_16 February 25th, 2005, 01:43 PM I see. I guess I should have looked at this instead of just experimenting on my own. Now I might lose some of my priveleges. *sigh* I guess that he who does things without asking is doomed to be punished.
Hell_Cat_18 February 25th, 2005, 01:46 PM It's always a good thing to read the rules before you start posting, but hon...newbs don't have a lot of privligages anway, but don't worry, it's okay to make honest mistakes.
miroku February 25th, 2005, 10:00 PM I am new here, and even I like the system. It gives frequent forum posters a way to judge themselves and become better posters not just here, but in all forums. Was this an original idea?
Sledgstone February 26th, 2005, 11:32 PM I am new here, and even I like the system. It gives frequent forum posters a way to judge themselves and become better posters not just here, but in all forums. Was this an original idea?
the reputation system is a feature of vbulletin and its highly customizable. you could probably call our settings and rules for it unique tho.
Kuwabara March 4th, 2005, 10:53 AM I Love it. It showed me my progress from a negative Post into 104.
It shows that i'm a great Poster.
defunct_pick March 6th, 2005, 11:31 AM okay, just a cenario, if someone were to down someones rep because they accidentally repeated a thread, would that make anyone angry? this person didn't know there was already a thread of it's nature somewhere else... Even though Ladywriter said that she would simly merge them, and was not a big deal....ack!
... sorry, just wondered what others though on the issue...
boondock_saint March 6th, 2005, 12:51 PM It's always a good thing to read the rules before you start posting, but hon...newbs don't have a lot of privligages anway, but don't worry, it's okay to make honest mistakes.
yeah for real pick, why would someone be so harsh over something so small...
defunct_pick March 6th, 2005, 03:07 PM I don't know Boondock, I suppose that was just their oppinion that that person should have known better...but all the same, it would frustrate me.
Hell_Cat_18 March 6th, 2005, 05:11 PM Yeah, but most of the time the good rep points make up for the few bad ones. Like I already have a bad rep point for a stupid comment that I feel had no ground...but it's okee, not really worring about it. It's all good girl, the rep system isn't really a form of punishment.
Khellendross March 9th, 2005, 02:13 PM looks rather intresting sledge ^_^;; havent been around much, hopefully *stresses the word* i can make it around more often :sulkoff:
Sledgstone March 9th, 2005, 11:33 PM khell..? O_o *whips you* :whip: come back more often. :p
TheProphet March 14th, 2005, 11:33 PM ok then
Amadeus March 26th, 2005, 01:07 PM Nice! I deserve lots of rep points for being an ancient lurker who met his girlfriend on here (yup, still together, infact I flew over to see her again over Christmas, and both our families are meeting up in the summer....so you might have to fulfill that promise of digging up the backups when we marry, Sledge :p) :)
aqu March 27th, 2005, 04:16 PM what are admin post icons?
Sledgstone March 27th, 2005, 08:34 PM what are admin post icons?
a bunch of nifty post icons like: X'D and :wtf: etc.. i'll be adding more in the near future. ;)
aqu March 28th, 2005, 06:00 PM But I can already use those o_o
Sledgstone March 28th, 2005, 10:42 PM you have the ac elite post icons.. theres a whole other set you can't use yet. :p
aqu March 28th, 2005, 11:52 PM o noes!1

Sabe March 29th, 2005, 04:28 PM Aww...no one hates you Blitz...You're too damn nice to hate!:p
Grandmaster55 March 29th, 2005, 04:38 PM So now you need the rank to use those icons?
Mimiru March 29th, 2005, 05:01 PM damn!! i only neeed 80 more posts till im elite!
Tanoro March 30th, 2005, 09:27 PM I have a question, Sledg. First let me praise this fascinating system. Very interesting twist you have here. I like it. But my question is this.
How about adding a 4th rep power variable based on how many of our friends we can flock to AC via word-of-mouth? If I've got friends who'd like to come here, they can specify on the new member form that I referred them.
To avoid abuse of this feature, you could add that rep power points remain "pending" until the referred person reaches 100 posts and cancelled if the referred person goes over so many months without posting. This way, it'll motivate us to get our friends involved by rewarding us more points, increase membership, and still avoid abuse.
*I tell a friend about AC.
*Friend joins and specifies that I referred him.
*I receive "pending rep points" for referring friend.
*Friend becomes frequent user and reaches 100 posts.
*My pending points become active points for referring new active member.
Would this be an acceptable idea?
Sledgstone March 30th, 2005, 11:19 PM Theres a referral system in place already. I don't have any specific numbers stated at the moment for upgrades and rep points could definitely be a reward for bringing valued posters to the forums. ^_^
- Forum Referrals
If you look in the FAQ, you will see a referral link specifically for your username. Login, and click the following link to view the details:
http://forums.ancientclan.com/faq.p...rrals_explai n (http://forums.ancientclan.com/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_referrals_explain)
By giving this referral link to an intelligent friend and having them sign up by using it, you will get a referral. By referring a friend, you can help promote the AC Forums and bring new members to it that can further develop the quality of the topics. By referring new members you can be eligible for usergroup promotions that can include benefits such as a larger pm box, forum attachments, etc. Keep in mind that we do not condone spamming, and users that spam their referral link will be ineligible for promotions and risk getting themselves banned.

EVA-01 April 2nd, 2005, 01:05 PM I have a question, someone gave me Reputation points and they were new. But they have already at leat posted 200, and their reputation is around 150. Still the reputation point they gave me hasn't become active (it's still gray instead of green). Why is that?
Sledgstone April 2nd, 2005, 02:55 PM new members have a rep power of "0" which results in the neutral graphic.. and it seems that once a member becomes eligable with rep power, it does not become retroactive. the previous rep comment made with a rep power of zero stays zero. (stays gray instead of green)
Miyu April 7th, 2005, 02:42 AM wow :wtf: i didn't even notice this post until well five seconds ago. i had no idea how the rep thing worked before, but now i feel like because you and lady explained this all i'm actually learning out side of class. thanks i've been meaning to do that.
wolfos3d April 10th, 2005, 04:11 AM I'm confuzzled...
EVA-01 April 10th, 2005, 03:14 PM What are you confuzzled about? I've only got 706 more post till I can be an Elite... :(
wolfos3d April 16th, 2005, 12:40 AM Don't worry. I get it now!!

Sledgstone April 18th, 2005, 10:12 PM heres the general rules on spam:
Spam:
If you are not an AC Client you may NOT have a URL in your sig! If you put a URL in your signature or make an image linkable to an off network website you may risk being banned or having your signature abilities removed. This also includes placing a URL in the image itself.
There will be no spamming sites not on the AC Network in your sig.
You do have the option of putting a URL in your profile which everyone can easily access.
General spamming by way of posting a link to a website in misc. topics or creating a topic with the intention of discussing a non-hosted site will also not be tolerated.
These forums allow you to contact others by email via a form and through a private messaging system. If a member is found spamming via use of this form or via pms, that member will be have their forum abilities revoked or become banned.
basically, its ok to link to something if it is relevent to the topic of conversation. but its not ok to spam as per the quote above. if you are still unsure whether or not something would be considered spam, send a pm to an admin or mod and ask them before you post it. ^_^

^ That is spam..hugely stupid spam..don't do that..-_-;
Sledgstone April 18th, 2005, 10:22 PM lol, yes, that guy spammed two topics and it resulted in his links being changed to the spam smilie and a banning. :p
wolfos3d April 18th, 2005, 11:20 PM lol. They could have been a bit more imaginative with that one.
Tanoro April 21st, 2005, 07:36 PM I've got a question. I've noticed that we can view our 5 most recent reputation entries on our CP, but is there a way to view the older ones? Also, are the rep entries for other members accessible to view publicly? If so, where are the links to these?
Sledgstone April 24th, 2005, 12:09 PM nope, only the most recent 5. and all the rep comments are private, similar to the private message system.

Ty sledge for answering my q i think i understand now
Thanx
Westonian June 2nd, 2005, 08:12 PM Ah, now it all makes sense. So all I have to do is not say anything stupid and hope that somebody agrees with my point of view or decides that I am somebody worth talking to and if they have the power, they could raise my reputation? It is all based on the freedom of choice as well. Choice is a beautiful thing. Let me pose a question though. From a human frame of mind, wouldn't someone be more likely to raise the reputation of someone who already has a high reputation rather than one who has a low one?
Sledgstone June 2nd, 2005, 10:39 PM that can be a factor, but if you consider the fact that the person already has a high reputation, then they must have acquired that high number for a reason. besides, its quite easy to give multiple people reputation points a day.
5 reputation bonuses/negatives/comments per day is the limit, and you cannot give the same person rep points again until you give rep points to 10 other members.
all and all, the quality of your posts and your activity on the forums can be a factor. but regardless of post count or an already existing high reputation, it all depends on how you present yourself and contribute to a topic. ^_^
Khellendross June 12th, 2005, 02:16 AM im still trying to figure out how all this works o.0;;
EVA-01 June 12th, 2005, 01:18 PM Neither do I sort of...So if you are are a good person and isn't an idiot when talking then some members will give you reputation points? But if you are a person who spams or is a bad person and says mean or something of that sort of stuff, will get bad reputation points? I guess I'm not that much of a person worth talkn' to then.:\
Westonian June 12th, 2005, 11:36 PM EVA, just try to be a person who doesn't rub the wrong way. People like people who are relatively nice and don't try to put other people down.
