For the best deal, the Radeon X800XL is excellent. In a lot of cases it is more powerful than a 6800GT, but about $100 cheaper...I got mine for about $270. Look more on pricewatch.com or newegg.

will the Radeon X800XL play half life 2 and doom 3 on highest setings?

Radeon! *makes X with arms* I still don't trust those catalyst drivers' stability, but if you're just asking if it will run HL2 and Doom 3 on highest settings, the answer is yes, depending on what resolution you're talking about.

Although if you think about it if you're going for a high end videocard you might as well get the GeForce 7800 which is one generation (and the newest) above the X800 (ATI's delayed their new-gen videocard till the end of summer)

it's same gen as x800....mid-range radeon, not as strong as the x800 but not much weaker.

Is Mike 1508 really Mike 1508 or just the evil twin Skippy?
http://www.dubird.net/image.php

lol, i could be evil and could a twin but u'll never know, i just noticed ur sig, what made u do that?

Edit: ok, i need some help one more time, what is the difference between this x700 pro http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6832788& amp;productCategoryId=cat01151& type=product&cmp=++&id=1093468042165 and this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/ Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102461 and also, what about this x800? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102493R

The difference between the first two is simply one's OEM (less support but cheaper, i believe). X800's just more powerful.

And playing a game "on highest quality settings" also depends on your resolution and the rest of your computer, so whenever somebody tells you that ask about resolution at least. (Though usually games don't need a resolution higher than 1600x1200)

And about dubird's sig, it's scripted so that whoever's viewing it has their name on there.

so witch one do u think i should get?

the one from best buy has 16 parallel pixel pipelines

the one from new egg has 8 pixel pipelines

and the x800 from new egg has 12 pixel pipelines

so what do u think?

sorry to bother u so much

edit: wait, best buy might be wrong, ive been looking on other sites, and they say the x700 pro has 8 pixel pipelines and not 16, it might be a mistake, but i dont know

And about dubird's sig, it's scripted so that whoever's viewing it has their name on there.

umm ... i was viewing it, umm ... ok what ever u say

Nah, Geforce's newest is the 7800 GTX with the incredibly ugly mascot. I liked Nalu a lot better.

It's all down to how much money you're willing to spend, Mike. If you want to max out performance x800 definitely.

im thinkin about the x800 pro, i talked to other ppl, and they all said that they play halflife 2 on all high settings, and if it plays that on all high, then it'll play all games, and i found a retail one for $148.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product /Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161137

thanks for ur help

If you stop and thing about it, the difference in the numbers exagerates things greatly. Once you plug in the card and start playing, the visual difference in minimal unless there's a huge diference between cards (such as a Radeon 7000 compared to a Radeon 9800 SE). Then int's only vagly noticeable.

someone told me that the GForce 6600GT (128MB) was better than the x700 pro (256MB) and the x800 pro, so witch is better the x700 pro or the 6600GT (128MB)

It doesn'T matter. ATI fans will say Radeon is better. Nvidia fans will say GeForce is better.

In essence, it doesn't matter because the difference, if any will not be noticeable by the naked eye.

thank u, thats all i wanted to know, i dont faver either, im kinda a nutual, but if there is no noticable difference, then ill get the x700 pro its a little cheeper :D

The factor is though, differences may not be discernible by the naked eye now, but what about future games? a more powerful card is pretty surely going to be more future proof.
