Kuwabara September 28th, 2005, 12:52 PM since sunday my Operating System could not be found by my PC. Recently (yesterday) i found out the Windows had an error or partially corrupted. So now i am gonna buy Windows XP but its like $199-_-;. But i got a friend who will sell me a copy for $35^_^; but i am skeptic if its just the windows or some greater problem......
Anyone got any suggestions?
Inuyasha88 September 28th, 2005, 03:38 PM Try getting Linux, its free. Go to google and search for Knoppix 3.9 bittorent download, or Ubuntu Download, or Slax Download. They take a while to download, but it is worth it. Also, you can order UBUNTU for free. If you download and burn Knoppix to a CD, you can use it on your computer without even having a hardrive, and if your harddrive is only corrupted in parts of it, you can save your files to a floppy.
Also, don't buy his XP CD, as it is pirating and illegal, also, after the first 30 days of using Windows, you need to verify its realness on the net, other wise it doesn't work, if you try to, they will log yur IP and yer fucked!

Before peddling linux as the solution to all problems, consider if the person you're supposedly trying to help needs and wants it. Many programs they use could not work on Linux (even with a windows emulator there are compatibility issues and performance penalties) and using it effectively may be a bit advanced for most users. I'm not saying Linux is horrible and bad, but it's not the solution to everything :P
Also, Windows' anti-piracy scheme isn't really as doomsday as you make it sound, you know. But yes, don't buy your friend's CD.
I'd personally wait for Longhorn, though.

the only reason I have windows is for Halo
Also, I know that Windows Anti-Piracy sn't that strong, but its not worth the risk.
Kuwabara September 29th, 2005, 06:35 PM Well i bought it from him and it works real well. I am on my PC but like i have to install sound systems and shit like that. Dont worry i was been registered with windows XP cause my comp originally came with it.
My system requirements are all met with this windows XPO and all that unwanted "SPAM" that HO hooked the pc up with is gone. But my D drive is too. I used it to reset my pc but hey.
Also i cant hear no sound from my speaker cause no audio hardware no nada. Not even the Resolution of my screen can be changed. Man this sux.

No sound? Got a sound card or an onboard chip set? If its a sound card open up your box and take it out then plug it back in. Restart your computer and it should auto detect it. For the other stuff I suggest reading up on windowsXP hardware auto detect. Its an option in setup I belive. It basicly scans your computer for unused or unknown hardware that hasnt been setup yet and alows you to set it up.
@the Linux haters - Linux/Unix is the answer to everything lol. With most Linux OS's now adays they support almost all windows formats the only down side is game support. Most games in windows wont work on linux...or they will but not as good. That should all change in time though as long as .net and ASP dont take over.
Kuwabara September 30th, 2005, 07:45 AM Thanks i never thought of removing it and putting it back...... As for the Auto detect it detected everything. Now all i need is when i get home to remove it and re insert it. Also i am going to buy an EX-ternal HD any ideas?

What in the world are you talking about O_O
Kuwabara October 1st, 2005, 09:40 AM Look Look The Sound Card Advice didnt work. But i think i know what i did wrong.... In order to restore my PC i had to delete all the Partitions even the Recover Partition the "D" drive. Now i dont know how to get it back.... thats the only way to restore it....
Strider Hiryu October 1st, 2005, 10:52 AM What in the world are you talking about O_O
By the sounds of it he has no idea what he's talking about.
Inuyasha88 October 1st, 2005, 12:26 PM What I was talking about were several Live linux distros. You put them in your computer and boot from them, and it lets you run a graphical Linux system without installing on your hard drive. If your computer doesn't have enough ram, it make a tem partition.
Kuwabara October 1st, 2005, 10:44 PM Okay back to my problem.... I got no sound! Every driver i install that is compatible with it fucks Windows over! Also why must everytime i load with XP i need to put in the XP cd? or else no OS.

mmm sounds like you have some issues here. First of all can you post your computer specs? (ex. P4, 512mb ram, 120gb hard drive, partitions?, crap on your computer yadda yadda more info the better)
Also, when you first installed windows what did you do? did you just put the cd in and let it go or did you go through and delete each partition? Id recomend just deleting everything on your Hard drive, partitions and all. Then boot from the cd and do its step by step setup. Once your done it should install fine. After your done with the install and the computer boots for the first time it should if it didnt at the install, detect all the known hardware that needs to be installed. It will give you easy options for loading drivers from cd, XP's driver database or windows update site. pick the driver database and windows site, unless you have cds for the hardware then just pop them in. This should make everything work sound and all.
If sound still dosnt work Id suggest booting into CMOS and looking at your on board chip set. shut off sound and then save/exit. after that shut your computer down open the box up and take the sound card out and them plug it back in. Reboot your pc and see if theres any sound when windows loads. if there is then walla, if there isnt then Id suggest going back to CMOS turning your sound back on and then going to your sound cards website and send them an e-mail or post on a forum there for help. It may just be an issue with the driver that your installing.
If any of my advice helped great if not post as much info as you can and Ill keep trying to help. Id still recommend posting on your sound card's web site for help.
PS. sorry for spelling
Kuwabara October 2nd, 2005, 02:02 AM i deleted all the partitions and such when i installed it. I did everythign you said a long time ago. Also i didnt know where was the sound card so i took out all of the hard ware except the motherboard and put it back in i got nada. I think its the audio driver cause once i install the AC97 audio it fucks up the windows.

Ahh the white hurts my eyes O_O .
Have you tryed http://drivers.soft32.com/driver/download-REALTEK_AC97_Audio_1xxx_2xxx_6xxx_8xxx_-24542.html
Also it sounds like the driver your trying to add is not supported or possibly the sound card is dead now. Id still suggest going to your sound cards support site and posting your issues there. You might hae a better chance of getting it fixed faster.
Is your computer still asking for a cd when you boot it up? It shouldnt be doing that. If it is then you installed windows wrong. You might have picked one of there security settings when installing. Search google for help on this.
Sorry that I cant be more help on this.
Eppy October 2nd, 2005, 05:32 PM i havent used a sound card in ages...built in sound is good enough for me caus ei have a USB stereo
Kuwabara October 2nd, 2005, 11:13 PM My Sound is Built in. I got AC 97 audio......
gokuDX7 October 3rd, 2005, 11:55 PM My Sound is Built in. I got AC 97 audio......
Why when I asked you if it was a sound card did you say yes then? ^_^; o well. If its a chipset then chances are its dead. Also when I asked you to unplug and then plug back in your card how did you do what if your sound is build in "chipset".
Im a bit confused now with what you have lol. Hope things work out for you though.
Kuwabara October 4th, 2005, 05:16 PM Damn.... I get Protcls.sys errors on a blue screen when i enable the Sound Device on the OS.
